Creating Opportunities

Being more productive and independent. Having a better quality of life. Making a meaningful contribution to the community. People with mental retardation and similar developmental disabilities have these goals and many more. The Greater Richmond Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) helps make them a reality by creating opportunities that span the lifecycle.

The Greater Richmond ARC serves more than 1200 individuals and their families each year through a variety of programs and services that range from preparation of young children, teens and adults for independent living and job skill development, to recreational opportunities for individuals of all ages in the greater Richmond community.

The Difference is Family

What differentiates the Greater Richmond ARC from other not-for-profit service providers for people with developmental disabilities is our commitment to the families of the individuals we serve.

The perspective of the family is important in every service we offer and every decision we make. We understand that individuals are not the only ones affected by their disabilities; their families also require consideration and support. This reaffirmation of our commitment to families is reflected in our mission statement:

“The Greater Richmond ARC creates life-fulfilling opportunities for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities, in partnership with their families.”
