Some of our positions are targeted for people with disabilities under the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act (JWOD), providing employment for people with severe disabilities through federally contracted job projects. Direct Care Providers Camp Baker (Chesterfield) - After School Counselor(M-F 2-6pm; all day when schools closed, including summer); Respite Counselor (PT and PRN) Multiple opportunities for experienced direct care providers. Duties include leading individual and group activities, providing personal care and creating a safe, fun and learning-focused environment for our clients. Experience as a care provider, educator or aide for individuals (adults or children) with disabilities CNA certification, therapeutic recreation or special education background desired Must have good driving record and be willing to transport clients in agency vehicles. Emergency Services Dispatcher For an individual to qualify for one of these positions, which are on AbilityOne contracts procured through a federal agency called NISH (National Industries for the Severely Handicapped), he/she must provide us with detailed medical documentation. To ensure that the Defense Supply Center of Richmond has adequate coverage to monitor, track and dispatch appropriate Police, Fire and EMS units based on information provided by telephone, Corporate Protection supervisors, radio transmissions and walk-ins. Ability to complete computer tasks related to typing of information/documents on computer system and operating computer driven radio system; working knowledge with common business computer applications (Windows, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel) Ability to work independently. Ability to handle multiple tasks and have strong organizational skills Ability to make professional decisions in an accurate and professional manner. Strong written and oral communications, with the ability to complete all required documentation. Ability to pass federal security requirements. Must successfully complete Agency provided “Basic Telecommunicator Course”. Must become NFPA 1061 Certified Telecommunicator I/II. For Positions that Require Disability Documentation
For an individual to qualify for one of these positions, which are on AbilityOne contracts procured through a federal agency called NISH (National Industries for the Severely Handicapped), he/she must provide us with detailed medical documentation that is signed by a licensed medical practitioner, specifies a diagnosis of a medical condition, and gives details on how the medical condition negatively affects the person’s day-to-day life functions. A person’s diagnosis must negatively affect day to day life functions to the point that they are determined to be “Severely Disabled”, which is a determination that our Rehabilitative Services professionals will make after a review of the documentation.
