The Greater Richmond ARC Names Bob Sommerville Board of Directors Chairman
RICHMOND, Va. (June 21, 2012) Robert Sommerville has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Greater Richmond ARC, a nonprofit organization providing services for individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages. He was formerly vice-chairman and a member of ARC's Finance and Governance Committee.
Sommerville will work with ARC's executive management and members of the Board on a variety of initiatives that are ongoing or in development at ARC; programs that he considers vital for the Greater Richmond community.
With local, state, and national government cutting back on the funding of social programs, nonprofits need more support from people in the community to continue to provide needed services, he said.
Marshall Butler, president of The Greater Richmond ARC, said Sommerville's background as a Certified Public Accountant and partner at Keiter will provide an important perspective and feedback as the organization continues to grow.
Bob provides input from both a business and community perspective, says Butler, also citing Sommerville's volunteer experience in the community as a former advisory board member of the VirginiaEntrepreneurshipCenter and a former director and chairman of RichTech ( formerly known as The Greater Richmond Technology Council.) He understands the importance of ARC's mission.
In addition to Sommerville, the new ARC Board of Directors officers include: Tom Haskins, Spinella, Owings & Shaia, vice chairman; Chris Mumford, The Martin Agency, secretary; D.B.
