BB&T Lighthouse Project Gives Back

Volunteers from the BB&T Lighthouse Project served home-style Italian lunch fare to more than 50 individuals employed in ARC’s production facility on Westwood Avenue. Nearly a dozen BB&T volunteers in aprons and gloves plated spaghetti, salad, bread, cookies and iced tea in a staff appreciation luncheon held Wednesday.

Project co-chair Brittani Gill said it was amazing to be able to show these individuals their work does not go unnoticed.

“We want them to know people in this community have their back,” she said.

Gill said even the food demonstrated this support; Joe’s Inn provided the meal at a reduced rate to support a local cause.

The BB&T crew decorated the tables and strung up a signed banner thanking workers. Green dots were placed under chairs at random – individuals seated in those spots took home gift bags from BB&T.

For volunteer Jenny Fisher, it was an awesome experience.

“It’s great to give back to people who are giving to the community every day,” she said.

BB&T Volunteers Partner with ARC to Make a Difference

Members of BB&T's Lighthouse Project, now in its eighth year, recently volunteered at the Greater Richmond ARC's ARCpark, a 2.4 acre handicap-accessible park for all ages and abilities at 3600 Saunders Avenue that opened last year. Their all-hands-on-deck effort included light landscaping such as spreading mulch.

In addition, BB& T volunteers helped at ARC's recent Ladybug fundraiser, purchased recreational equipment and  arts & crafts supplies for ARC’s Camp Baker summer camp program, and are hosting a luncheon in June for ARC Employment Services participants.
